Right across the street from the Metrolink train station in Newhall is the Railroad Cafe, under new ownership. The cafe now puts the emphasis on community, bringing people together around a casual art gallery space and music gatherings. (We saw they hosted a drum circle last week.)
SCVFoodie stopped in for just a cup of coffee and a place on write on a Saturday morning, and the server behind the bar was one of the friendliest baristas we’ve ever met. She obviously loved her job and loved working there. She also knew when to leave a customer alone, so we were able to write and file a story from the cafe.
The drip coffee, from Counter Culture Coffee, based in Durham, North Carolina, was a little on the weak side for our taste, but it beats Starbucks’ Pike Place roast any day.
Railroad Cafe also serves oatmeal, granola, breakfast sandwiches and light lunch picks, so we’ll definitely be back and try their espresso and eats next time.
